2021 Virtual Spring Training Details 03/20/2021 https://test.cendiv-scca.org/2021-virtual-spring-training-details/ Sat, 13 Mar 2021 16:55:19 +0000 http://test.cendiv-scca.org/?p=6711

Hello, and thank you for your interest in our first ever CenDiv virtual Spring Training. We thank you for taking time out of your Saturday to join us. While this isn’t how we wanted to get together, as the SCCA National Convention showed, it can be fun and informative-just different.

We will begin on Saturday, March 20 at 8:00AM, with a general session for everyone, that will include updates from us, an update on 2022 Spring Training from Paula Spencer, and a presentation from Chris Robbins from the national staff.

Around 9:30ish (not time certain), we will separate into different “rooms”: F&C, Registration, Tech, Timing & Scoring, Stewards, Solo (including a solo safety steward training from Aruch), and Track Days/Trials. The CenDiv, Inc. board meeting (open to all) will begin at Noon in it’s own room. If there is a desire for any more rooms, please let Kevin know at kcoulter@comcast.net by Wednesday night. Note that you can change what room you are in whenever you would like. We anticipate most sessions will be done by Noon.

The Zoom connection information is at the end of this message. If you have not installed Zoom before, downloads for almost any device are available at https://zoom.us/download. If you have Zoom installed already, please be sure it is the latest version by updating apps on your device, or, if the PC version, start Zoom, click on your initials in the upper right hand corner, and then select Check for Updates. Being current is needed to join rooms. To pick or change a room, on the bottom of your Zoom window, is a button labelled “Breakout rooms”. Go there, and pick the room you want. You go back there if you want to leave that room, and then join another. Finally, if you are wanting to join by phone, it will put you automatically into the main meeting. You can then be “assigned” rooms for the breakouts. Again, please email Kevin if you would like to do this no later than Wednesday.

Thank you. Please let us know if you have any questions.

On the Green Stuff – Want to Get Involved? https://test.cendiv-scca.org/on-the-green-stuff-want-to-get-involved/ Mon, 28 Dec 2020 18:36:21 +0000 http://test.cendiv-scca.org/?p=6261 What is this “Green Stuff”? More than a few members are confused by the term “green stuff.”  The easy explanation is the racetrack is black – the grass is green. Most of what the Competition Road Racing Committees, Specialty administrators, and race volunteers do is “on the green stuff”. OK, under full disclosure, generally in buildings, sometimes gravel, often paved, but NOT on the racetrack.  Hopefully, you get the idea.

If you need a better, fuller, more accurate explanation, one is available. The CenDiv Drivers School / Double Divisional event will be held April 16 to 18 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. On Saturday, April 17, the Chicago Region will conduct a whirlwind tour of “the green stuff” with emphasis on brief explanations of each area necessary to stage a race event. We will provide answers to your questions, introductions to volunteers and drivers and plenty of time to watch real racing, as they say, UPCLOSE & PERSONAL.

To be included please contact the Chicago Region Office at: ClubOffice@scca-chicago.com or call 847-729-2211.

2020 John McGill Award https://test.cendiv-scca.org/2020-john-mcgill-award/ Thu, 17 Dec 2020 13:38:46 +0000 http://test.cendiv-scca.org/?p=6197 John McGill Award

Noteworthy in 2020 is the John McGill Award, bestowed for significant contribution to the SCCA Club Racing Program. Winners are chosen annually by the Club Racing Board in conjunction with the head of Road Racing, and the list of previous recipients contains SCCA and motorsport luminaries. Keeping in mind that 2020 was such a “distinct” year, SCCA Director of Road Racing Deanna Flanagan noted the John McGill Award presentation would be equally unique this time around.

“The 2020 John McGill Award goes to each SCCA region that hosted an SCCA Road Racing event during a very tumultuous year,” Cobb said. “Conducting race weekends is complex and requires a lot of work and dedication. Hosting race weekends during a pandemic? That increases the complexity tenfold or more. It is only proper to recognize each Region, each volunteer, each competitor, and every single person who made 2020 SCCA Road Racing possible. The words ‘thank you’ can’t do justice for what SCCA members contributed to the Club this year. Our hope is the John McGill Award begins to convey our true appreciation.”

Blackhawk Valley, Chicago, Land O’ Lakes, and Milwaukee Regions were all recognized during the award presentation.
